The South African Marlin and Tuna Club (SAMTC) is amongst the oldest and most prestigious fishing organisations in South Africa. We operate out of False Bay Yacht Club (FBYC), Simonstown, Cape Town. The Fishing Club and Yacht Club amalgamated some years ago and have developed a stunning marina complex designed specifically to support the needs of recreational fishermen and yachtsmen.

The SAMTC provides it’s members and visiting guests with access to IGFA / Province verified scales and weighing facilities. This is to ensure that when you catch that World Record / Personal Best then there can no question as to the accuracy of your claim. Also available are the offloading and weighing facilities offered by Simonstown municipal jetty and crane which can be utilised to weigh particularily big fish.

The Club and grounds are situated adjacent to SA Navy’s largest facility which is home to the majority of The Fleet. Not only does this ensure the security in and around Simonstown is amongst the best in SA, it also adds a different dimension to the start of each fishing day. What type of ships will be moored up against the walls this morning? Stealthy Corvettes, gargantuan supply vessels, submarines, fast attack vessels, all are common sites. Visiting ships from foreign Navy’s have utilised Simonstown’s excellent facilities for centuries, smokey Indian Destroyers, noisy British nucleur subs, all are welcome!

The facilities down The Cub include an excellent cafe /bar / restaurant named Neptunes where superb hot food and drink can be purchased served 7 days a week. The Cub Bar is open in the evenings and over weekends. The prices are hard to beat and the view from the upstairs deck area is amongst the best in The Cape. Full toilet, washing and showering facilities are obviously available and also situated on Club grounds are a first class fishing tackle shop, False Bay Tackle, and a top notch chandlery, Bay Marine. The Tackle Shop stocks literally everything from Shimano stand up big game rigs to hand lines. The Chandlery stocks an extensive range of boating supplies and equipment including our rather excellent SAMTC and FBYC clothing range.

The parking facilities down The Club are extensive and comprise a municipal patrolled car park next to The Navy car park situated directly behind The Club. It’s very safe! Parking is free of charge and our helpful parking attendants are always at hand to assist with the off loading of fish, tackle etc – for a small fee of course!

False Bay Yacht Club can be reached easily from Cape Town and all other areas simply by picking up the M3 and heading towards Muizenberg. Upon reaching the end of the M3 at the foot of the mountain, turn left and follow the connecting carriageway for 1 km down towards Lakeside. At the Lakeside T junction, turn right onto the M4 and continue towards Muizenberg. The M4 will then take you all the way to Simonstown taking you firstly through Muizenberg then Fishoek, Kalk Bay, past Glencairn and on into our historic home port. Upon entering Simonstown you will need to drive through the heart of The Town, past the Admiralty and Museum on the left, past the hotels and restaurants in the centre of town, past the Town Square and then immediately turn left at the sign marked FBYC and NSRI. This takes you directly into our car park. If you go past The Police Station and the entrance to the Navy yards, you’ve gone too far!
